When I started shedding the linear grooves of Clark and Garibaldi, my mother would call down to the basement, “Remember Jack, a little displaced snare can go a long way.”

She had a point. I was in my rebellious phase: teens.

Now I’m in my “making up stuff my mother said” phase.
